"poetic lyrics . . . driving bass line . . . meaningful stories with themes of feminism and queerness."
Abby Volta is a unique new artist electrifying the Boston music scene. She defies typical genre boundaries and considers herself gothic indie rock. Fusing poetic lyrics with a driving bass line, Abby Volta’s music tells meaningful stories with themes of feminism and queerness. She pulls from multiple genres including Indie, Alternative Rock and Goth, and is best described as a mix of Joni Mithcell and Souxsie and the Banshees.
Abby has been gigging around Boston and New England, and has played multiple venues including The Jungle (MA), Fenway Porch Fest (MA), Cafe Nine (CT) and The Parlour (RI). In July 2023 Abby was invited by Leestaval Studios to participate in their Live to Vinyl recording session, and in October participated in the Indie Rock Masquerade at the Democracy Center to raise money for the LGBTQ+ organization BAGLY.
In February of 2022 Abby released her first single “Noble Beast”, inspired by Angela Carter’s feminist fantasy story “The Bloody Chamber”. Currently Abby is working on her second release “Rabbit Catcher”, based upon Sylvia Plath's poem of the same name, which will be streaming next year. “Rabbit Catcher” is a moody, synth filled ballad with a harmonic bass line and powerful chorus.
This year’s Fenway Porchfest (2023) was a collaboration between Fenway Alliance, Fenway Community Development Corporation, and Fenway Community Center.
